Carcassonne is a tile-laying game for 2 to 5 players from Hans im Glück. You build the countryside one tile at a time and place your followers (meeples) on cities, roads, monasteries and farms to score them. This page is a free score tracker and a guide to scoring the current edition of the base game. Your box has the full official rules.
Your turn
- Draw a tile and place it so its edges match the tiles next to it.
- You can place one of your followers on that tile, on a city, road, monastery or field that nobody else has claimed yet.
- If your tile finishes a city, road or monastery, score it now and take those followers back.
Scoring during the game
| Finished road | 1 per tile |
| Finished city | 2 per tile, plus 2 per pennant |
| Finished monastery (surrounded on all 8 sides) | 9 |
Who scores a feature
The player with the most followers on a feature scores all of it. If players are tied for the most, each of them scores the full amount. Features can end up shared when separate pieces get joined.
End of the game
The game ends after the last tile is placed. Then score everything that's still unfinished, plus farms:
| Unfinished road | 1 per tile |
| Unfinished city | 1 per tile, plus 1 per pennant |
| Unfinished monastery | 1, plus 1 per tile around it |
| Farm (field) | 3 per finished city it touches |
Farms are scored by whoever has the most farmers in that field. Only finished cities count for farms.
Winning
The highest total wins. The scoring track only goes to 50, so it's easy to lose track of laps. The score tracker counts them for you.
Using the score tracker
- Each time something is scored, tap what it was, enter its size, and tap who scores it. Pick more than one player for a tie.
- When the tiles run out, flip to End of game for the reduced points and farms.
- Playing with expansions? Use Other points to add anything else.
