How to play Mexican Train Dominoes

A dominoes game for 2 to 8 players, usually played with a double-12 set. Each player builds their own train, and everyone can play on the shared Mexican Train.

Setup

  • The first round starts with the double 12 in the center hub. Each round after, the starting double goes down by one, ending with double blank.
  • Shuffle the rest face down. Each player draws their tiles: 15 each for 2 to 4 players, 12 for 5 or 6, and 10 for 7 or 8. The rest are the boneyard.

Your turn

  • Play one matching tile on your own train, on the Mexican Train, or on any train that has a marker on it.
  • If you can't play, draw one tile. Play it if you can. If you still can't, put a marker on your train so others can play on it until you play there again.
  • If you play a double, you must play another tile on it right away, or someone else has to cover it before anything else can be played.

End of a round

The round ends when someone plays their last tile, or when no one can play and the boneyard is empty.

Scoring

Count the pips on the tiles left in your hand. Going out scores 0. Some groups count the double blank as 50.

Winning

After the last round, the lowest total wins.
