How to play Crazy Eights

The classic match-the-card game for 2 to 7 players with a standard deck.

Setup

Deal 7 cards each with 2 players, or 5 each with 3 or more. Put the rest face down as the stock and turn the top card over to start the discard pile.

Your turn

  • Play one card on the discard pile that matches the top card's suit or rank.
  • Eights are wild. Play an 8 any time and name the suit the next player must follow.
  • If you can't play, draw from the stock until you can. Some tables limit you to three draws.

Going out

The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the hand.

Scoring

The winner of the hand scores the cards left in everyone else's hands:

Each 850
K, Q, J, 1010
Ace1
2 through 9face value

Winning

The first player to the target wins. Many groups play to 100 with two players and 200 with more.
